Bhubaneswar: In a bid to reduce man-animal conflict in the State, the Odisha government has decided to establish an elephant sanctuary somewhere in between Berhampur and Kandhamal.
Speaking to media persons today, Chief Wildlife Warden Hari Shankar Upadhyay said that the forest reserve area between Ganjam and Kandhamal districts will soon be declared a new elephant sanctuary.
“A new infra range device will be installed along the elephant corridors. The new device will capture sounds of the movement of the elephants and alert people in the nearby areas. We had a discussion about developing this new device with IIT-Bhubaneswar,” Upadhyay said.
The attach of radio collar around the neck will help to monitor elephants movement, which will lead to identify the exact location of these elephants and drive them out of the area,” he added.
