Bhubaneswar: On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, Odisha State Open University has launched an online training programme for teachers of colleges and universities engaged in teaching through face-to-face, distance and online mode to acquire skills for effective learning by the students.
Dr. Arun Kumar Sahoo, Minister of Higher Education inaugurated the programme. Speaking on the occasion Sahoo admired the initiative of the Open University and requested the teachers to participate wholeheartedly so that they can use the blended mode of teaching in the pandemic situation.
The programme will be available from 2nd November free of cost in the online platform for all teachers in the state and outside the state. Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia has collaborated with the State Open University in the design and development of the programme.
There are eight modules to be covered within four weeks with minimum of three hours of weekly engagement by the teachers in the online platform. There is a provision for both Certificate of Participation and Certificate of Completion with required hours of engagement in the online platform and securing 50 and 70% marks respectively.
More than 2000 college teachers associated with the Open University in Odisha on a part-time basis shall be benefitted through this training programme. About 800 people from the state as well as from outside today participated in the inaugural ceremony.
The mouthpiece of the Open University called the MUKTAPATRA was also inaugurated by the Minister on the occasion. OSOU was the only University in Odisha shortlisted by the Central Government for their commendable achievement in the field of community work in the five adopted villages located near Sambalpur.
Rs. 1.75 lakh was awarded to the Open University to do developmental work in the field of education health and skill development targeting the poor unemployed youth in the adopted villages.
Minister Sahoo assured Government support to the Open University in its endeavour to provide quality Higher Education at affordable cost to all sections of the society residing in different parts of the state. Dr. Srikant Mohapatra, VC Open University, has presented the welcome address and Dr. Madhu Parhar, Director CEMCA also spoke on the occasion.
