Replying to a question, Sahu said polling was held peacefully even in Maoist affected districts. While Kesinga NAC in Kalahandi district recorded the highest polling of 81 percent, Bhawanipatna municipality in the same district saw the lowest voter turnout of 55 percent.
Counting of votes as well as announcement of results will take place tomorrow. Notably, ruling BJD fielded 301 candidates while Congress and BJP nominated 240 and 268 candidates respectively in the polls to 11 NACs and nine municipalities conducted in as many as 560 polling booths. The need to conduct the polls emerged after the political parties had boycotted the ULB polls first notified on August 12 demonstrating solidarity with the demand for establishment of a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in the region.
