Cuttack: As many as 8583 persons have been arrested by State Police for driving in an inebriated condition in 3 months between September and November under the amended MV Act.
As per official statistics, 2394 persons were arrested for drunken driving in the month of September while 3462 persons were arrested in October. Similarly, police have also arrested 2727 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol in the month of November.
According to police sources, if alcohol content exceeds 30 mg. per 100 ml, the drug consumed makes the driver incapable of exercising proper control over the vehicle, following which the concerned driver will be arrested.
If the arrested person does not furnish required security for bail, he will be forwarded to the jurisdictional court along with the “Prosecution Report” with the signature of 2 witnesses,” police sources added.
