Bhubaneswar : Kendrapara MP, Baijayant Panda, resigned from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday around four months after he was suspended from the primary membership of the party for “anti-party” activities by Naveen Patnaik.
Baijayant has sent his resignation letter to the party supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
He has also informed him about his resignation as the Member of Parliament.
He also informed that he would inform the Lok Sabha Speaker about his resignation post-cremation rituals of his father Banshidhar Panda.
Baijayant said he has decided not to continue as a member of the BJD since he is no more wanted by the party.
The dissident MP, who remained a Rajya Sabha member of the BJD from 2000 to 2006 and again from 2006 to 2009, had won from the Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency twice as a BJD nominee — first in 2009 elections and again in 2014.
