Covid Breaking: Odisha Sees Biggest Jump Of The Year With 3,108 New Cases, 3 Fatalities


Bhubaneswar: The daily surge in Covid-19 cases in Odisha breached 3K-mark today with the State recording 3108 new cases in the last 24 hours, the biggest single-day jump of the year, said a data released by the State Health and Family Welfare Department on Friday.

Similarly, the State reported three deaths from three districts each- Bolangir, Ganjam and Sambalpur, added the State H&FW Department.

As per information from the State Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department, the State had last registered over 3000 cases around six months ago on October 8, 2020 when 3144 people had tested positive for the virus with 1825 from quarantine and 1319 local contacts.

Out of the total cases detected in 30 districts of the State, a total of 1806 cases were reported from quarantine centres while the rest 1302 were local transmission cases.

On Friday, Khordha reported the highest 534 cases while Sundargarh stood second in the list with 523 cases. Apart from that, nine other districts reported a surge over 100 cases in the last 24 hours which includes Cuttack (163), Nabarangpur (156), Sambalpur (153), Balasore (151), Nuapada (140), Bargarh (132), Balangir (133), Puri (114) and Keonjhar 105 cases.

Similarly, districts reporting cases below 100 are- Jharsuguda (89), Jajpur (75), Mayurbhanj (71), Ganjam (55), Kalahandi (55), Bhadrak (53), Angul (44), Sonepur (42), Rayagada (38), Jagatsinghpur (29), Koraput (23), Kendrapara (22), Deogarh (19), Gajapati (18), Dhenkanal (16), Nayagarh (15), Kandhamal (10), Boudh (9) and Malkangiri (3), informed H&FW Department.

With the inclusion of Friday’s figure, the number of total cases in the State surged to 3,61,450 while 1,938 have succumbed to the disease till date and 3,42,570 patients have been cured or recovered. The active cases in the State stood at 16,889 on Friday, added the Health and Family Welfare Department.

The State has so far tested a total of 95,28,182 samples including 33,251 on Tuesday. Odisha’s positivity rate stands at 3.79 per cent.
