Hinjilicut : A man was arrested on Monday morning for allegedly killing his father over a property dispute at Samarjhola village under Hinjilicut police limits in Ganjam district.
The accused, identified as A Dibakar (41), allegedly bludgeoned his father A Krishna Rao (75) with an iron rod over property dispute leading to his death.
According to sources, Dibakar, who is second of the three siblings, works as a mason in a private company in Nagpur. He had a strained relationship with his father over the property issue. The father-son duo had a heated argument over the phone on Saturday.
On Monday morning, Dibakar reached the village and picked a quarrel with his father at around 7 am. In a fit of rage, Dibakar took an iron rod and repeatedly hit his father.
Hearing the noise, the neighbours rushed to the house and took a critically injured Krishna to Hinjilicut community health centre. However, he was pronounced dead by the doctors.
Following the death of the elderly man, the angry villagers tied the accused to an electric pole and thrashed him. Upon being informed, Hinjilicut police rushed to the village and rescued the accused. The police also seized the iron rod used by the accused to kill his father.
The police registered a murder case and sent the body to Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. Further investigation is underway.
